Bright Spark Blanket
Welcome to our local knitting group's heartfelt initiative, where we lovingly knit vibrant blankets for charity! We often receive an array of donated knitted squares in various brands, weights, and colors, and our unique joining technique helps to smooth out any puckering caused by differing tensions. In Australia, we predominantly use 8ply yarn (equivalent to DK weight in the USA), so if you're knitting with American worsted yarn, you may need to adjust your stitch count accordingly for the best results.
This charming charity blanket is thoughtfully crafted from 24 individual knitted squares, each skillfully knitted diagonally. Every square measures 30cm (12 inches) square and consumes approximately ¾ of a standard 100g ball of yarn. Depending on your knitting tension and yarn choice, you may need to increase or decrease the number of stitches to achieve the desired fit. When finished, including the border, this beautiful blanket measures approximately 125cm x 185cm (50 inches x 72 inches), making it a cozy and generous size for those in need.
This method is akin to my first popular pattern, Patty's Perfection. If you enjoy working with regular squares, be sure to check it out for more traditional options. The colors used in this design were based on the squares I received as donations, inspiring a layout created out of necessity. However, we encourage you to unleash your creativity! Feel free to rearrange the colors or select a combination that truly resonates with your personal style.
Join us in making a difference, one stitch at a time. This blanket not only serves as a warm embrace for those in need but also as a testament to the power of community and creativity in the world of knitting!
